Jabiru REspec’s non-recurrent projects are ‘one-offs’ or ‘time limited’ projects.
These projects happen for a variety of reasons and are funded in different ways. Sometimes, the community expresses a need for a particular project. Arvo’s In the Park
Brisbane City Council wanted to consult with young people in the Bracken Ridge area about what events, facilities and activities they would like to see in the area in the future. Jabiru REspec, along with consulting company, Plan C, planned four events in four parks across Bracken Ridge in July 2009. Activities included climbing walls, live music performances, kite flying and opportunities for young people to perform their own acoustic and hip hop music. The project targeted 10-18 year olds and doubled as a fun, safe, free set of activities while young people could contribute to Brisbane City Council’s planning for more young-people-friendly communities.
Outreach
Jabiru REspec provided outreach activities around the Shorncliffe-Chermside area as a crime prevention strategy. The program engaged young people in activities such as sports, fishing, art and dance. It was designed to provide young people with safe and free diversionary activities on week nights, in an effort to keep young people occupied while out at night.
