REAP aims to support all young people aged between 15 and 18 in Brisbane’s north who are not currently engaged in school or who are having difficulties in maintaining their education in a traditional school setting. It is designed for young people who want to complete Years 10, 11 or 12.
We accept referrals for the program from young people themselves, or from their parents, carers, guardian, family members or support workers. Referrals can be made by phone, email, or at our location in Bracken Ridge.
Jabiru REspec operates a team-wide referral process. This means that all referrals are taken to a case meeting, and the team decides whether the program has the capacity to provide ongoing support. Referrals are usually responded to within one week.
If the referral is appropriate for REAP, the young person is asked to come in for an interview with the REAP Support Worker and Teacher (the young person is very welcome to bring along a parent/guardian/friend/support worker to make the process more comfortable). If there is a vacancy and a mutual interest in participating in the REAP program, the young person will be asked to participate in an interview with the Bracken Ridge State High School Guidance Counsellor.
If the referral is not appropriate for REAP, the Support Worker will provide information and contacts about other services which may be able to offer the type of service required by the young person.
